We all had our first taxi ride today-we hadn't been able to find EmmaLi some clothes yet (I didn't bring that many and thought we would be able to buy some very easy) so, we ventured out! I was very nervous because we didn't know how to express to the driver where to go and all, but the bell hops (I guess you call them that) were able to give directions and we made it to a Wal Mart and a shopping center. I found some adorable clothes for EmmaLi at a little shop and was kind of happy we took the trip. We still to had to hit the Wal Mart for some essentials. The Wal mart is located on the second floor and we took the escalator up as we all got off we had 3 Chinese people grabbing our feet and obviously we didn't know what they were saying at all and I was concerned we had to take our shoes off to shop or something. It would've been hilarious to get it on camera I am sure. We (Jon, Jessica and I) finally realized they were cleaning our shoes for us and I started thinking Oh great how much is this gonna cost us? Then the guy as he was cleaning my shoes kept grabbing at other shoppers feet as they walked by, seriously high pressured sales here. They finished one shoe for each of us and then proceeded to try to talk to us and we seriously had nothing, I finally looked at their stupid table and realized they were trying to sell us a cleaning rag. Oh, my heck are we stupid and we ended up buying one and I pulled out this small booklet of very small amounts of chinese (mainly for adopting words) because after we bought one the guy kept going on about buying 2 or so we thought. He proceeds to grab my book and thumbs through the book and trys to talk to us some more. I think you had to be there to appreciate how comical it all was but, oh well we are a "sucker" in any language. We did go to McDonald's after that and I tell you I love that place! I am so grateful they made it to China! It seriously made my day! Having greasy fries and a cheese burger couldn't have been better except if we could've had a ice cold diet coke! We bought Mcflurry's instead (they don't have diet coke in china plus we can't have ice) and it was the best, EmmaLi couldn't get enough of the ice-cream! She was so happy grinnin from ear to ear and if I didn't shovel it in fast enough she was screamin' we had some staring chinese gigglin' at her for awhile! We got back to our hotel and it was nearly 7 and so we rushed up to our room to drop off the groceries and to change EmmaLi so we could catch the show that happens in the lobby every 2 hours. We were proud because we only had 10 minutes and we are on the 17th floor but we made it back in time to sit on a couch get the video camera all set up and on filming and watching the clock. Oops we forgot it runs on the even hours and we starting laughing just in time to see a hotel guy rushing over to tell us it doesn't happen til 8 (very concerned) oh well it was funny. EmmaLi had another bath and we played until bedtime it all seemed to be going so well and then when we went to put her to bed, tears for hours and calling for Mama-I felt so bad I couldn't console her she just ending up crying herself to sleep. It was a challenge but, Heavenly Father is helping us and we will all make it! And no worries we will all have clean sneakers too! Thanks for all the love and support!
