Today we went to a memorial for a great leader (Dr. Sun Yat-sen's) in China who is compared to our Abraham Lincoln. This leader helped over throw the govt. and brought more freedom to his people. He was so respected and loved by many Chinese that they have a beautiful monument built of him however, as a tribute to him they built it at the top of 392 stairs. It means there were 392 million Chinese at the time of his death that mourned for him. Yes that is right I said 392 and we climbed everyone of them! Yes, and I did feel the burn! Not only were there 392 steps but they were on an incline up to the memorial which meant to bring yourself higher in life it takes hard work and the opposite for going down. Chinese people I have found to have many symbols and I told our guide that we have that in common with them through our religion which is very symbolic.
Next we were taken to a fresh water pearl park. We were taught just a few things and then had an opportunity to purchase some. The surrounding park was beautiful and you could see the purple mountain on one side and the wall of Nanjing as well.
Our guide commented today that EmmaLi is much louder than when we first got her. He said she was very quiet and now she is "spoiled" is how he termed it! I'm not sure I agree with the spoiled part but, she is much louder. She is eating much more frequent but, not as much and we all think her little cheeks have already started to fill out some! Jiangsu actually does not have many babies to be adopted we found out today because it is one of the more affluent provinces. Fred (guide) said that he only gets to help with maybe 2 or 3 a year and the rest of the time he is a tour guide. He said when they have an adoption happening they get to stop and just concentrate on them. He has been wonderful and we feel like we have made a new friend it will be hard to say goodbye. I wished so badly I had brought a nicer gift for him-it's sort of embarrassing really to give him what I brought but, it'll have to do! I am going to see if he will give his address to us and send something else when we get home. I've been on the look out here for something to buy but, haven't come across anything truly meaningful.
We did get EmmaLi's passport today so, yippee she gets to come home with us. Good thing cuz I wouldn't be able to leave her for nothing! I barely let go of her now! She has some bad habits of hitting and throwing but, dang her laugh is so infectious it is hard not to laugh with her when she does it! We have some work to do. Her walking is also improving but, it is going to take some time. Crawling isn't even a strong point either it is screaming and holding hands up for Mama. I am so glad she wants me I have indulged her in this too much already but, I know our work will begin at home. One step at a time (pun intended) but, hey today we made 392 of them!
