Today our guide took us to a very famous memorial for the Nanjing pre-second world war. The Japanese came to conquer China and slaughtered/tortured men, women and children over 300,000 were killed. It is so sacred you are not allowed to take pictures inside the museum but, we were able to get pictures of the outside statues. It was sobering to see what humanity does to one another. The Japanese soldiers had torture devices that will haunt me and the graphic pictures were too horrific. They didn't bury the dead, they threw them in the Yangzee river. Although horrible, I am glad we saw it to understand the animosity between Chinese and the Japanese all of what happened during the massacre is unforgivable. Japanese soldiers were having contests to see who could kill the most people in a 2 hour period of time. I cannot comprehend why people can do these things-the worst is that Japan never formerly apologized
and some even deny that it ever took place. I think that is why China has documented so carefully everything they could about it to prove it did actually happen. And again the Chinese say we need to learn from the past-we must never forget.
After the memorial we made a stop at a brocade shop where they did beautiful embroidery work the looms were used by 2 people generally the woman separates the strings on top and her husband (often times, but could just be a 2nd person would color each strand at the bottom. It made me think of marriage, the husband and wife have to work very hard to create something beautiful. We were lucky to catch a fashion show with beautifully embroidered dresses only costing about $6,000 we bought 3! (ha ha)
Our final destination after riding the Nanjing subway was the zoo. Our guide took us there especially for Jessica and was the highlight of her trip! We did get to see the pandas even though they were sleeping. I loved the monkey island, it had hundreds of monkeys I've never seen that many in my life! The baby tigers were cute too! We are at the end of our stay at Nanjing and leave in the morning for Guangzhou we are ever grateful to have had this time learning of where EmmaLi is from and meet such kind people.
