Okay, What a day! I went to school for volunteering and it's a bit odd with having to discuss with the teacher an inappropriate book a child was reading but, O.k. I can handle it. Then I rush over to the care center to help paint nails of the cute patrons there (relief society service deal-who got us into that I wonder???) and I've been before it was fun no big deal. I see the cute little oriental woman that I've met before and she mumbles a bit and I've never been able to understand her before so, I just carry on filing her nails talking to her as if I'm getting whatever she is saying, smiling, laughing having a great time. I have her pick her color of polish and we begin painting nails I get one hand done, we keep chatting and I begin the other hand and all of the sudden her hand tightens up (almost as if she is fighting me) and she is completely gone. I am sick (is she dead??) I look over to the new sister in our ward next to me and she says "Oh look she's yawning, she's just went to sleep" I shake her shoulders and call her name I cannot get her awake! I'm still fairly alarmed because she was out so quick. I decide hey this is a care center I can go get a nurse. Go down the hall no-one in sight. Trying not to panic I run back in the room just as the activities director comes in and I tell her "umm, excuse me I think there is a problem here," she walks over and says "she does this all the time goes right to sleep" and I firmly suggest not like that she was out within seconds and I can't awaken her. She proceeds to try and then she looks at me and says "just put on a top coat she'll be fine" OH, o.k. someone is in a coma and I'm going to finish her nails properly! Great! SO, what do I do?????????? I am dutiful and put the top coat on. Meantime poor oriental woman starts to drool profusely and cry tears dripping down her face and still not coming to. I'm still alarmed and not wanting to freak out the children that are with us again I approach the activities woman and she finally says, Oh she is diabetic (should we have gotten her a candy bar before worrying about the top coat?) maybe we should let them check her vitals. "Thank you that would make me feel better" I tell her. Shortly after nurses are all around and they end up hauling her off in her chair and all but, nobody is overly alarmed hey I got the top coat on everything is o.k. Next time you have a life emergency, never fear I'll come do your nails and you'll be set! (No worries, oriental woman apparently fine and great nails too!)
O.k. and if that wasn't weird and wild enough the day continues. I go to dinner with my family and Jessica announces on the way home the thing parents love to hear "I've got to go right now!" We pull off to Harmons grocery store and I take her in. I always try to support business' that provide facilities for my child so I pick up bananas and buy some to be nice. Big mistake (did I not learn from my earlier experience?) Nope. I go to check out and score there is only one couple in front of us (good Jon is waiting in the car we can hurry) Jessica and I stand there and we can't help but over hear the adamant grocery clerk saying loudly "trust me she is not cheating on you, I wouldn't lie to you" she is grabbing the guys hand across the counter and goes into a story about her husband cheating on her and how she would never tell anyone a lie about that and, blah, blah did I walk into one of the magazines on the rack by the check out maybe like soap opera digest or something? Jessica is standing intently listening and then turns to me and starts asking what is she talking about Mom? Do I do the smart thing back up and go to another stand, oh no once again, duh x 2 today. I politely back up the stand and try not to listen and let my child run off into the store until the clerk is done with her "As the World turns" audition. The clerk apologizes to me when she finally gets done and says it like no big deal! I smile and say it's o.k. and quietly paying for my bananas and head out the door thinking I have had the weirdest day.
But, at least I did the nice thing and put the top coat on and bought bananas because my kid had to use the bathroom.

Oh my goodness! That is actually funny! Did this happen after I talked to you? I will call you next time I need a quick nap. My nails could use you!
Do you want to bring Jessica over tomorrow night? I realized after I got off the phone that I didn't re-say I could take her. Just let me know!
You are so funny. I really appreciate your dedication to service. I think standing in line and buying ice cream might have made that experience more bearable:)
That was hilarious!! Thanks for putting a smile on my face this morning! You are an awesome woman to do so much service and thinking of others. I'm sure that woman was glad to have beautiful nails when she woke up!
I am not going to do nails!! That is so funny. I'm glad she's okay.
Oh kim!! I was just laughing the whole time I read this! You poor thing! I would have been freaking out! And- now you've learned your lesson- don't bother making a purchase if you use the potty! You'll make up for it the next time you buy groceries!!!
KIM! This is so hilarious! I'm so glad you shared it with us all so we could get a laugh, though I'm sure it wasn't that funny while it was happening.
LOL!!! You handled it well. Not sure that I would. I will call you when I need both a nap and a manicure!
My kids would have totally been staring and listening. I wish people would be a little more aware of those that are around them. Especially children!
